THE TRANSFORMATION of eagle academy newark
One of the challenges Eagle Academy for Young Men of Newark scholars face as the 2016 - 2017 school year approaches is the look of their school building. Drab hallways (above) filled with old, broken and ugly lockers are not the best inspiration. But this year the scholars of the Eagle Academy Newark have come up with a solution to this problem. Using the power of Eagle scholars working together, Eagle families, partners like the United Way of Essex and West Hudson and the exponential reach of social media the "EXTREME MAKEOVER: Eagle Newark Edition is HERE!

This project was greatly inspired by the teachers and administration from the Biloxi Junior High School in Biloxi, Mississippi, school, who had the idea to transform eyesore lockers in the eighth-grade hallway into literary works of art. (above)
There, two teachers, assisted by a team of about 40 volunteers, spent the summer painting book titles onto the lockers so that the hallway is now a life-size library that they say has infused the school’s nearly 1,300 students with an excitement for books. Eagle Newark looks forward to creating that same excitement for learning and literacy in Newark, New Jersey. |
