Newark, NJ January 26 - The Eagle Academy for Young Men of Newark DJ Crew, Wildout Eagles provided music for the Newark Mentoring Movement / MBK Newark Mentoring recruitment event at NJ PAC. Thank you all for giving our scholars the opportunity to perform for their city.

EAGLE ACADEMY NEWARK DJ'S WELCOME LEGENDARY DJ COOL V
Through a partnership with NJPAC artist residency program the Eagle Academy Newark launched the "Four Elements of Hip Hop Artist Residency". Through this new initiative participating Eagle scholars learn the four major elements of Hip-Hop: SPOKEN WORD (MCing), DANCE (Breaking, Popping, and Locking), MUSIC (DJing and Beat Boxing) and VISUAL ART (Graffiti). The students will collaborate to create and perform a final piece that includes all elements. The initial program includes 10 one-hour sessions with 2 professional teaching artists, a 1 Pre-Residency Planning Meeting, 1 Arts Jam! Culminating event. Eagle Academy for Young Men of Newark is excited to have this opportunity and we are looking forward to this program becoming a staple at our school.

CUTMASTER COOL V
For over three decades, heavyweight hip-hop producer and mixologist Cutmaster Cool-V has bought unmatched talent and work ethic to the music industry. Born in Elizabeth NJ, he’s touched numerous gold and platinum records by an array of artists; including Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and Technotronic. As a member of the Queens' Bridge based Juice Crew All-Stars, he began working side by side with Hip Hop groundbreaking radio personality the late DJ Mr. Magic, in the late eighties. He is one of three DJ's who are among the first to command the stage at the historical NAACP Awards. SHELKIA "PURPLE" NORRIS
Sheikia S. Norris, lyrically known as Purple Haze or Haze, was born in the birthplace of hip-hop, The Bronx. Currently residing in Newark, New Jersey, Haze challenges audiences with a natural ease and a voice that inspires audience movement and positive thoughts. Enthusiasts of the art form appreciate her energy, her impeccable flow and a clever deliverance of truth. Haze has mastered her own rich style of spitting lyrics with both power and substance. As the Hip Hop 101 Edutainment Program Facilitator & Recruiter for the Hip Hop Culture Center, a member of the Rhyme Like A Girl Collective (Freestyle Union) and up and coming curator for hip-hop art and performance, Haze is a diversified talent poised for success in a host of arenas. She is recording her highly anticipated EP, pH Balance for a 2014 release and “Painting It Purple” all over the globe! |
