The Eagle Academy for Young Men of Newark Annual Tie Ceremony is a very important ritual in the Eagle Newark culture. Usually held in October/November each year it is a celebration of Eagle culture. During this ceremony the Eagle Academy Newark community (scholars, parents, families, teachers, staff, administration, corporate and community partners, mentors and more) comes together and joins our scholars as they receive their official Eagle ties. Additionally, men from the Newark community are challenged to participate by assisting the scholars to tie their Eagle ties. Since Eagle's launch in 2012 this ceremony has become an important event in the city of Newark. Venues for past Tie Ceremonies have included Newark City Hall and Metropolitan Baptist Church. Past speakers at the ceremony have included Senator Cory Booker, Shawn Dove, ED Campaign for Black Male Achievement, Honorable Mayor Ras Baraka, David Banks, CEO of the Eagle Academy Foundation, as well as representatives from the United States Military Academy at West Point and Newark Public Schools.
