Dear Eagle Academy Newark Parents and Guardians,

Our brain is a muscle that needs to be exercised constantly.  It is crucial for your son to read during the summer months to maintain and extend his independent reading level.  This will keep his brain in shape.   Research validates that students who do not read during the summer months make it difficult for students to keep up with grade level reading expectations.  The selected books are popular and can be borrowed from your local public library, purchased at a book store like Barnes and Noble or online from Amazon.com or Thriftbooks.com.

Scholars should complete the task for their September 2018 grade level.  For example, students who were in grade 8 would complete Gr. 9 assignment. Students in grade 10 would complete grade 11 assignment.  Students in grade 11 would complete grade 12 assignment.  Juniors and Seniors will be notified regarding the Eagle Academy Opportunity Program.  If they are selected to participate in this program, they should complete the AP assignments for their upcoming grade level.
  • Students are required to read a minimum of 1 book and complete the reading assignment.
  • The reading assignment will be their first assessment grade for Marking Period 1.
  • Failure to complete the assignment will result in a grade of “0” for the project.
  • Students will also be required to share a short commercial about the book in a 2-minute oral presentation.  This will count as a class participation grade.
Our Eagle Scholars have made great strides this year.  Advance thanks to you for ensuring that your son feeds his mind and maintains the growth he has made during the academic school year!

Looking forward to a great and productive new school year!  Wishing you a safe and healthy summer!

Sincerely,

Ms. Sheryl Sewell
